When dealing with something as important as a client's hair, it’s paramount that students have the most up-to-date and accurate curriculum available. However, with many curriculum offerings dedicated to beauty schools and not high schools, finding the right curriculum is a challenge many Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers face.

As a dedicated provider of CTE curriculum, iCEV places importance on finding the best curriculum available and sharing it with other CTE educators to help students succeed outside the classroom.

In this article, you’ll discover the three best cosmetology curriculum options:

  • MiLady
  • Pivot Point
  • My Hair Dresser

By the end of the article, you’ll have all the information needed to choose the best option to fit your students’ needs.

MiLady Cosmetology Curriculum

Known as the “bible of cosmetology,” MiLady provides a comprehensive and interactive curriculum that builds the knowledge and skills needed for success in a salon

Used in a blended learning environment, students can interact with video content, in-class skills activities and projects to implement what they’ve learned throughout the course and build confidence.

Who Is Best for MiLady?

MiLady could be an excellent fit if you need a comprehensive curriculum with in-class activities and labs. Additionally, if you’re a newer teacher who needs instructor support with pre-made PowerPoint slides, detailed lesson plans and test banks, MiLady could be an excellent choice.

However, if your curriculum budget is lacking or you want to implement a more supplemental resource, MiLady might not be your ideal curriculum. Also, it might not be a fit for more seasoned instructors who don’t need the extra support that MiLady offers.

How Much Does MiLady Cost?

Utilizing all of MiLady’s curriculum offerings could be costly for those with a limited budget, as each textbook currently costs $169.95. In addition, digital access to Cima costs $165.95 per student and there are extra fees for access to instructional videos and the course management guide.

The Course Management Guide is currently priced at $795 per teacher and access to instructional videos costs $1,045.95. However, you can bundle the additional resources for $1,391.95.

However, if you’re a first-time cosmetology teacher, the vast amount of customizable content provided could be overwhelming. Additionally, due to the amount of content supplied, this might not be a viable option for your classroom if you only need a supplemental resource.

How Much Does Pivot Point Cost?

Which Cosmetology Curriculum Is Right for My Students?

Finding the best, up-to-date curriculum for your high school students can be extremely difficult. But, with the options discussed in this article, you’ll be well on your way to creating an engaging and successful learning environment.

If you’re looking for a comprehensive and interactive curriculum complete with an abundance of teaching resources, MiLady could be your best option.

For a more customizable curriculum fit for a blended learning environment, Pivot Point might be suitable for your students.

If instead, you need a supplemental resource to fill skills gaps and complement current lesson plans, My Hair Dressers could be a great choice.

However, if none of these options fit the needs of your students, consider iCEV’s cosmetology courses. iCEV’s cosmetology curriculum explores terminology, hair coloring, styling and skin and nail care.
